For those who like things served with a dose of quirk and character, we’ve tailored this very special Italian trip. Unique accommodation and surprising neighbourhood gallivants will delight us over 12-days of going seriously local. We’ll learn to make true pizza and float around a vineyard, jumping from Milan’s catwalk city streets to the sparkling teal grottos of Capri like superstars.
We’ll arrive in Rome and settle in to our boutique digs, where the word ‘bland’ won’t even enter our dictionary. Wasting no time getting acquainted with the city, we’ll have a 4pm pow wow before taking to the streets.
With boxes ticked and the capital approved of, we’ll be ready to peel back a few more layers of this boot shaped country. Just before we swan off to sunny Sorrento, we’ll poke our heads around the Vatican City. After a tour through the iconic Sistine Chapel, St. Peter’s Basilica & Vatican Museums, we’ll exit the gates of the world’s smallest country feeling intensely impressed by the pope’s choice in décor #HomeGoals. After a scenic drive along the Italian coastline, we’ll pull up in the dream scene of Sorrento. These vistas have become synonymous with the ultimate European vacation, and here we are just settling into it like it’s no big deal. We’ll bulk out the knowledge bank with a class in making pizza the local way – now there’s a trick to take home and subtly brag about.
This morning you can enjoy an easy breezy morning catching the first creamy rays of the day in a bath robe sipping coffee. For once your ‘Woke Up Like This’ situation is even better in real life than it is in photos. Famous world over for its shimmering beauty and endless glamour, the Isle of Capri will today be our reality. Sign up for a trip around the sparkling emerald grottos in a private wooden motorboat or an indulgent Bay of Naples Feast. Making the most of our time on this precious gem of an island is essential.
Pack your bags and cast your last wistful stares upon the Gulf of Naples. Today we’re heading to where the Tuscan sun dances on groves of succulent olives. Adding to the ever-growing encyclopedia of our knowledge collected on travels, we’ll detour past the ruins of Pompeii. This archaeological site boasts remains of a Roman hang-out destroyed by a mountain eruption in 79AD. Just sit and let that date sink in for a minute… Later on we'll be floating into the city of Florence, to find the Duomo Cathedral and its surrounding medieval streets. You can take a stroll along the River Arno & ponder its prettiness over a local drop of vino.
With a full day to go local in Florence, you should grab a caffè latte pronto. We’ll take you to all the iconic musts, then you can make your own bespoke discoveries. The south bank of the Arno is the place to be, scattered with bookshops, cocktail bars & all the cool Florentine kids.
Keeping on the theme of romantic Italian cities, we’ll hop from Florence to the setting of Romeo & Juliet. Heart filled eyes will be all amongst us as we step into the Shakespearean scene of fair Verona. Although there will be no Leonardo DiCaprio in sight, there will be plenty of pretty architecture and flower draped balconies to keep us satisfied. By night we will arrive at the famous canals of Venice, where photos can’t do justice to the delight of gondolas just drifting by. We can start our time here with a traditional “passeggiata”, the Italian art of evening walking.
Hidden lanes and story book bridges are ours on this full day in Venice. We’ll take a private boat through the city’s canals & islands, and see all the iconic hotspots to boot. You can then go a little deeper by catching 20th century art at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection Museum, or sampling fresh local produce at the markets of Rialto Bridge.
Along the pretty shores of Lake Garda, we drop into the quintessential European lake town of Sirmione, complete with vine-covered villas, Roman ruins and a castle. For amazing views of the surrounding Dolomite Mountain range and an interesting lakeside look at the local lifestyle, we’ve organised a chance to go out on Italy’s largest lake in an optional cruise. Later, the energy levels turn up a notch as we head to Italy’s fashion capital and economic powerhouse, Milan. Your Trip Manager will show off Milan’s monuments and talk to you about the massive Duomo Cathedral, the elegant shopping arcade of Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and the world-famous La Scala Opera House, where many singing greats have graced the stage. With a free afternoon, hit the streets of this cool capital and you’ll be rewarded with designer stores and funky little boutiques. Your Trip Manager, who knows Milan’s ins and outs, will be happy to point you in the right direction for the best buys before you flash the plastic. Unless you’ve got mountains of cash to splash on this city’s line up of boutique shopping, you’ll be happy to hear we’re heading off before the temptation gets the better of us. Trading our sleek city get up for some suave boating attire, we’ll move from Milan to the Italian Riviera. Here in the stunning Cinque Terre region we can enjoy wine soaked mussels and watch a dreamy sunset by the Gulf of Naples.
Heartbreak though it may be that we’re departing from the Riviera, today is jam packed with Italian goodness, so we won’t be sad for long. With a world famous monument and a winery on the agenda, today is going to be a good one. Shortly after leaving the Italian Riviera, we’ll find ourselves sitting by a sloping Italian icon. Points go the best fail photo… After a full day of Italian goodness, we’ll return to our starting point of Rome where we can go deeper on this city. Having ticked off many of the essential icons on Day 1, the rest of our time here will be spent roaming the streets like a local.
Today The Eternal City is ours – we’ll purr through its charming narrow lanes & slip into the espresso sipping culture. More exploring can be done in the borough of Monti, where Rome’s creative cats meander & linger. Being our last night on trip we have a treat in store, an optional dinner boasting an opera singer, live music and pasta.
The trip ends after breakfast and it’s time to say “arrivederci” to your new friends.
