Itinerary

01

Day 1

ARRIVAL PHNOM PENH
Arrive at Phnom Penh International Airport where your local team will be waiting for you and we will transfer to our centrally located hotel.

Day 2

PHNOM PENH CITY SIGHTS
We will tour the sights of Phnom Penh, visiting Wat Phnom Temple, Toul Sleng Genocide Museum, the Russian Market and Choeng Ek Killing Fields outside of Phnom Penh as well as other sights.

Day 3

PHONM PENH TO SIEM REAP
We will depart Phnom Penh by river on board a comfortable 2-deck wooden boat. We will cruise along Phnom Penh’s riverside on the Tonle Sap River and then across to the Mekong River. We will cruise up the Mekong, stopping for excursions at a local silk weaving village and an island pagoda before arriving at a sandy beach where we will stop for lunch and some swimming if you want. Afterwards, we will continue on to Siem Reap.
Note: When the water is low (March – April) we may not be able to dock at the island beach for swimming and occasional bad weather may mean that the boat trip is replaced by a coach trip – your safety is always prioritized.

Day 4

ANGKOR WAT
Today we’re going to explore the wonders of Angkor Wat and you’ll meet up in the morning and then head off by bicycle to the temple complex and follow a loop that passes by many of the main temples. You will visit the highlights of Angkor, including Angkor Thom, Bayon, the Terraces of the Elephants and Leper King and Angkor Wat itself.

Day 5

SIEM REAP
Today you’ll see some of the area surrounding Siem Reap with a little bit of trekking, cooling off in a waterfall and also seeing the unique pink sandstone Citadel of Women. In the evening we’ll enjoy a buffet dinner and Apsara Dance Show.

Day 6

ANGKOR WAT
Today we’re back to exploring more of the Ankgor Wat complex including Ta Prohm, the jungle temple and Neak Poan, the serpent lake temple among others. In the afternoon, we will climb Bakheng Mountain where we can watch the sunset over the Angkor temple complex and the vast Western Baray, an ancient reservoir.

Day 7

FREE DAY SIEM REAP
A free day in Siem Reap – rest and relax, explore this bustling town that’s become a real backpackers hub or even head off on an optional activity. Your guide will be able to give you suggestions for all sorts of things to do. Free day in Siem Reap.

Day 8

SIEM REAP - PHNOM PENH - KOMPONG SPEU
Say goodbye to Siem Reap and the wonders of Angkor Wat as we head back to Phnom Penh by boat* and then by road to Kompong Speu, the site for the volunteer teaching project.
*NOTE – when the water levels are low we will need to replace to boat trip with a coach on the roads. Water levels can be unpredictable and we often won’t know which form of transport will be used until a matter of days before the trip.

Day 9-13

For the next 5 days you will be based in Kompong Speu, a rural part of Cambodia, where you will work to help improve the English language levels of local youngsters. Don’t worry, lots of support and advice will be on hand! Not only will you be able to make a positive impact on the community but you’ll also gain a fascinating insight into rural life and learn a huge amount about the region from the local team in Kompong Speu

Day 14

KOMPONG SPEU TO SIHANOUKVILLE
Time for the beach! We’ll head from Kompong Speu to the lively beach town of Sihanoukville and a few days or well earned rest, sunshine (hopefully!) and a lovely warm sea to relax in!

Day 15

SIHANOUKVILLE
Today we’ll head by boat to surrounding islands with time for snorkeling and swimming at a number of beaches. Lunch will be served on board the boat and we’ll get back to Sihanoukville in the afternoon.
Note: If the weather is bad this trip will be delayed until later in your time at the beach. However, if the weather remains bad we will arrange an alternative day trip in Sihanoukville.

Day 16-19

BEACH TIME
Enjoy some free time to relax at the beach, explore Sihanoukville and surrounding area and generally soak up the atmosphere on this lively coastal region

Day 20

SIHANOUKVILLE TO PHNOM PENH
Say goodbye to the beach as we leave Sihanoukville today and head back for one final night in Phnom Penh.

Day 21

DEPART PHNOM PENH
After a final night in Phnom Penh it’s time to head home or towards new adventures and experiences. Check out is around 11:00am this morning

      Twin / triple share accommodation days 1 - 7 and 14 to 20 with en suite and air-conditioning.
      During the volunteer teaching part of your trip you’ll be staying in a very simple dorm style community living area. Whilst this accommodation is basic, it’s run by an incredibly friendly family and gives you the opportunity to really feel part of the community
