There is plenty of time to admire these magnificent grounds which are a combination of European & Thai designed buildings and gardens. Our next stop is Ayuthaya, one of the ancient capitals of Siam and a UNESCO listed World Heritage where we will first visit Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon which was formally known as Wat Chao Phraya Thai before being renamed by King Naresuan to commemorate a battle fought against the Crown Prince of Burma in 1592. This temple also affords the opportunity for a glimpse into the future with a fortune teller.
Our next stop is Ayuthaya`s answer to the Taj Mahal is Wat Phanan Cheoeng which is one of Ayutthaya`s oldest temples and home to a 19 meter high Buddha image. Behind the temple is a small 18th century shrine which was built to honor a Chinese Princess who drowned herself because of the king`s infidelity.
After lunch our final stop are the ruins of Wat Phra Mahathat which was built in late 13th Century and will provide many photo opportunities including an ancient Buddha head statue surrounded by Banyan tree roots.
From Ayutthaya we head west to Kanchanaburi (approx 4 hours) and check in to our resort which is located on the famous River Kwai.
