Itinerary

01

Day 1: Embark at Frankfurt

What's up, river roaming crew? Who's pumped for 8 days of casually cruising down the Rhine? Meeting up onboard The A, we'll start as we mean to go on with a welcome shindig, drinks and dinner. Party vibes on high, we'll the head into the cosmopolitan lights of Frankfurt for a night on the town.

02

Day 2: Frankfurt

Got carried away last night? A big breakfast and a strong coffee should sort you right out, as you'll be needing all your energy for today. First up, we're going exploring around 'Mainhattan', Europe's largest financial centre and the reason this city is home to bankers galore. Within this part of town you'll find the Old Town - pretty, winding and impressively ancient. Explore around here on foot or bike, and be sure to stop off at the Kleine Markthall for some local wares. Foodies, you can explore the market with our on board chef, stocking up on local produce for tonight's cooking class. Keen to learn about the history of the city? The Rothchilds are a good place to start, as is the Jewish museum. Tonight, we'll get another taste if the city's eclectic nightlife scene.

03

Day 3: Frankfurt to Koblenz via Rüdesheim

Well good morning pretty Rüdesheim! Do we have any Game of Thrones fans onboard? Then you'll probably recognise the 12th century Eberbach Monastery, which was used as a filming location. Today, we're visiting with one thing on the mind - wine. We'll taste the abbey's famous Rieslings and cycle around the region...in that order. Ready for something special? Tonight we will dine like Kings and Queens, quite literally, as we feast on a banquet in a bonafide medieval castle. Eeekk! Think rustic food, think local Rhine wines, think lute-strumming bards and think serving wenches. Definitely more Henry VII than Red Wedding, that's for sure... After dinner (if we can roll ourselves outside), our Local Guide will show us the sites of Koblenz, starting at German Corner, a local hangout where the Rhine and the Moselle river join.

04

Day 4: Koblenz to Cologne via Remagen and Bonn

Stopping first at Remagen this morning, and it's time to flex your cycling skills once again. We'll drop you off here and meet up with you again in Bonn, giving you plenty of time to take in the delights of the romantic Rhine valley. Later on we're stopping in Bonn to pick up our weary cyclists, it's worth having a wander around Bonn, most notably the birth place of Beethoven, and you can actually visit the great composer's birth house here. We're finishing this day with pretty, medieval, fun loving Cologne. We love this city, its residents love this city, and we're betting you'll love it too. And to be honest, how can you not? Once docked, we'll take you to Cologne's Cathedral, which literally dominates the skyline of the city with its twin spires and is regularly voted Germany's most popular tourist attraction. Then, it's onto the Altstadt (old town), where the gothic architecture and homely beer halls will have you seriously impressed. Speaking of beer, this evening you'll be trying Kölsch, a Cologne speciality.

05

Day 5: Cologne to Duisburg

Hopefully there won't be too many sore Kölsch heads this morning, as we've got another prime cycling opportunity for you - again riding the long, flat and ridiculously beautiful path to Duisburg. Or, you could just chill on deck - totally your choice. Old meets new in Duisburg, where we'll be docking for dinner. itching for a party this evening? We have good news - one of the town's most notable DJ's will be coming onboard to get the party started...

06

Day 6: Duisburg to Amsterdam

No trip to the "Venice of the North" would be complete without a cruise around the city's iconic waterways, so that's exactly what our agenda has in store for today. On route, take note of the way in which no building is actually straight (it's legitimately crazy), and keep your eyes peeled for the narrowest house in the world (just a door's width wide!). Cruise complete, take your pick of our Optionals for how to spend the rest of the day. Maybe the house of Anne Frank has been on your must do list since forever, or perhaps it's the tulip displays at Keukenhof Gardens that you've been dreaming of. For the foodies, we've got a cheese workshop or a mixology masterclass to keep you entertained. Tonight, lets see what the bright lights of Dam have in store for us...

07

Day 7: Amsterdam inc Haarlem

We'll be casting off from Amsterdam early this morning, but chances are you'll still be snoozing peacefully. Them's the joys of a river cruise! Waking up to the pretty Dutch countryside passing by your windown and after filling up on breakfast treats, you'll step on land for the day in Haarlem, famed for its cobblestone streets, traditional gabled houses and leafy courtyards. So, what to do? Well, you could explore the museums, kick back with lattes and stoopwaffle in one of the cosy cafes, or opt for a ME Time Optional. For the hops heads, we're heading to a brewery in a converted church, and for the adventure aficinados we've got something real special - blokarting on the beach. YouTube it, then do it. Back in Dam for the night, and it's our last one as a river dwelling crew. So, lets see this trip out in style, with a farewell dinner, tasty dutch street food, and one last night out on the town."

08

Day 8: Disembark at Amsterdam

After one more blissful sleep, we're sad to say your boat time is over. River cruising, you're new favourite way of travelling! But, no need to fear as tonight you join up with your Contiki crew and explore Amsterdam. Opt in for an evening cancal cruise to see famous gable houses.

09

Day 9: Amsterdam to Rhine Valley

Experience Amsterdam’s coffee shops, museums and cool, quirky boutiques. In your free time, wander along shady canals and pass gabled houses or hop on two wheels like the laid-back locals and bike through the centre of town. Chill out while the coach follows the Rhine River, weaving through valleys dotted with castles and vineyards. Next stop - the pretty, old-world village of St. Goar, complete with fairy tale castle and the world's largest free-hanging cuckoo clock! Kick back with a glass of local wine and choose to find out more with the optional wine tasting in a candlelit underground cellar.

Explore the heart of Munich’s old town with the crew, and head to Marienplatz. It’s a central gathering spot famous for the Glockenspiel – a Gothic clock, complete with 32 dancing figures and 43 chiming bells. Get off the beaten track and onto Munich’s side streets with our Local Guide on a fun biking tour around the city – it’s a great way to see the sights. Then, get a taste of tradition at a typical beer hall. Park yourself at a long wooden table, order yourself some hearty local food, like roasted pork knuckle, and quench your thirst with a stein of one of Germany’s 5000 brews.

11

Day 11: Munich to Austrian Tyrol

Roll on through the Tyrol’s massive mountains to a cute Austrian village in a region famous for adventure sports. Plunge into some whitewater rafting in an adrenalin-pumping optional activity on the river. Afterward, there’s a chance to visit the Swarovski Crystal World Museum and pick up some of their world-famous crystal. Wrap up the day with a bit of time to do your own thing - laze about or get out for a walk in the surrounding hills.

12

Day 12: Austrian Tyrol to Venice

This morning, roll on to Venice. Take some time to practice your Italian phrases on the coach as we travel through the Brenner Pass. Known as the “floating city”, Venice is packed with character, crammed with hidden lanes and linked by a network of canals. Jump on our private boat and travel through the waters of the lagoon to visit the city’s historical heart. The limestone Bridge of Sighs, the gothic arches of Doge's Palace and the expanse of St. Mark’s Square (pigeons and all!) show Venice’s unique beauty and way of life.
